Congratulations to Brandon Holliday, Didsbury High School’s valedictorian

Didsbury High School is pleased to announce that the valedictorian for 2024-25 is Brandon Holliday.

“Brandon’s academic achievements are strong,” says Scott MacDonald, Principal of Didsbury High School. “He knows where the ‘good enough’ line is and strives to go past that in every class. He’s got big plans and we have no doubt that with the hard work he has shown, that he will be able to achieve them.”

MacDonald says, “Brandon is very involved in our music program, and contributes to the welcoming culture of our school. He has great respect for his classmates. He is a great student and a great person.”

Brandon Holliday says he was honoured and happy to find out he is valedictorian. “It’s nice that all the hard work paid off.”

Brandon says the highlight of his years as a DHS dragon is “the people. They’re great! I’ve enjoyed being with other students on band trips, and in classes. For four years it’s been my community, and I have enjoyed getting to know the people. I will miss them.”

Brandon Holliday says, “I am grateful to the teachers I have had at Didsbury High School and for all they’ve done for me. Also, they’ve made school enjoyable.”  For instance, Brandon says, “Mr. Jesse’s French accent makes me laugh. Ms. Rasmussen helps me think deeply about things and about the future. Ms.Bessey is not afraid to speak her opinion and she pushes me and others to achieve more.”

“I am grateful for the personal experience I’ve had at Didsbury High School. Teachers don’t just teach. They build relationships,” he says.

Brandon says his favourite subject is calculus. “Weirdly, I enjoy that class. I like the challenge. It’s like a puzzle and it makes it interesting.”

Next year Brandon will be attending the University of Calgary on a scholarship, taking engineering. He hopes to transfer to Memorial University in Newfoundland later, to continue studying engineering in the hopes of becoming a Naval Engineer.

“I became interested in early 20th century history and naval development during that time. I liked that time period and could see that change and innovation has been unparalleled in history. When I thought of this, I could see myself doing that.”

We wish Brandon all the best in his future studies!
